International Thyroid Week will be May 21-25

The International Thyroid Week will take place May 21-25, with the theme “Myths and Facts about Thyroid”. During this time, associations and medical societies from all over the world will carry out educational actions that seek to make people aware of the importance of the thyroid gland and its disorders.

In 2009, The Latin American Thyroid Society (LATS), the European Thyroid Association (ETA), the American Thyroid Association (ATA) and the Asia & Ocenia Thyroid Association (AOTA) chose May 25 as the International Day of Thyroid. Since then, campaigns have been conducted involving lectures, distribution of printed material and dissemination of information about the thyroid to the media.

The thyroid is a gland located in the neck, shaped like a butterfly, which produces a series of hormones important to our body.

LATS believes accurate information is the most important tool for the correct diagnosis and treatment.
